The crashes were concentrated in Los Angeles County (142), Monterey County (65) and Orange County (63) and 12 other counties.

26.5% of the crashes had a driver reported as drinking (California: 27.9%) and 28.7% had a speeding-related driver (30.2%); pedestrians were 27.2% and motorcyclists 16.5% of those killed.
