Fatal Roads reproduces NHTSA's FARS files without editorial changes, so most differences between this site and another source come from the files themselves or from a definition (see the methodology).

Errors in the underlying record

FARS is compiled by NHTSA from state crash reports. A crash coded to the wrong county or route, or a count that differs from a state's own figures, is a matter for NHTSA or the state's FARS analyst; NHTSA's contact details are on its FARS page. Corrections NHTSA publishes appear here at the next build after the revised file is released.

Errors introduced by this site

If a figure here does not match the FARS file it cites (a mis-parsed field, a county attached to the wrong state, a route mis-identified, a broken comparison or rate), write to the address on the contact page with the page URL and the value you expect. Processing errors are fixed in the code and the site rebuilt; expect a reply within five working days.

Identifying information

The site publishes aggregates only. If any page appears to identify an individual crash or person, report the URL and it will be reviewed immediately and, where the concern is confirmed, removed at the next build and the suppression rules tightened.
